Mr. Harris holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering Technologies from the deVry  Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.  He began his career in 1984, as an associate field engineer working for aircraft simulator contractor Hughes Training Corporation, now Raytheon Corporation. He held numerous positions including site supervisor of Helicopter Simulation Support for the United States Army in Hanau, Germany. In 1991, Hughes Training Corporation established a telemedicine department in Augusta, Georgia where Mr. Harris assumed the duties of technical manager. While there, he worked to integrate one of the first telemedicine "turn-key" systems ever produced, systems subsequently used by organizations such as the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Medical College of Georgia, the University of Alberta, Canada, and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

In 1997, Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital tapped Mr. Harris to work in its Information Technology Department in a collaborative telemedicine effort with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. This project has grown to become the South Carolina Telemedicine Network.

In 1999, Mr. Harris joined the School of Medicine full-time where he devotes his talents to developing and maintaining equipment within the SCTN. Using his seven years of experience in computer technical support and nine years experience working specifically with telemedicine and videoconferencing issues, he is responsible for the 24-hour maintenance of each system within the network.
